Rectron Opens New Digital Lab at Duduza School to Boost STEM Learning

Rectron, a leading South African ICT distributor, has partnered with Assar Moloka Secondary School in Duduza, Johannesburg to launch a new ICT lab aimed at improving digital skills.
The state-of-the-art ‘Rectron Technolab’ includes 41 modern computers and forms part of Rectron’s Progressive Educational Upliftment (PEU) programme, which supports STEM education in under-resourced schools.
Rectron CEO Spencer Chen and chief of people Kutlwano Rawana attended the official handover alongside Department of Education officials.
The school’s pass rate rose from 84% to 94% in 2024, and this new facility is expected to support even greater progress in the years ahead.

Cape Town Confirms Safe Drinking Water Amid Faure Plant Repairs

The City of Cape Town has confirmed that the municipal water supply remains safe for consumption, despite ongoing emergency repairs at the Faure Water Treatment Plant.
According to the Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, Dr. Zahid Badroodien, repair teams are working continuously to stabilise the system.
He noted that the plant’s operations are being closely monitored to ensure a reliable and uninterrupted water supply.
While the system remains stable, residents across the metro have been urged to reduce their water usage to help alleviate pressure on the supply network.

The University of Pretoria has climbed to 63rd in the 2025 Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, placing it among the world’s top institutions contributing to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
UP ranked seventh globally for Sustainable Development Goal 17, which focuses on building partnerships to achieve the goals — the highest ranking for any African university.
It also secured top spots in goals related to peace, poverty, and economic growth.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Francis Petersen says the results reflect UP’s focus on innovation, social impact, and international collaboration.
It remains the second-highest ranked university in Africa and South Africa, in a year when global competition intensified.
