UJ ranked as the best university in sustainable development in Africa

The University of Johannesburg has emerged as the leading institution in sub-Saharan Africa in addressing global challenges through the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

This according to the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings.

The university is now ranked among the top 30 universities in the world out of 2,318 institutions that have been evaluated.

Free State Helium extraction project to boost regional economic development

The Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Gwede Mantashe, says the Tetra gas project in Virginia, in the Free State province, holds the potential to become the world’s largest helium production facility.

The Minister made the remarks during a tour of the site, which forms part of the country’s first onshore natural gas exploration and helium liquefaction venture.

Mantashe has described the initiative as a key milestone for SA’s energy and mineral development ambitions and emphasised the strategic importance of exploiting local gas and helium resources to stimulate economic growth.

The Honorary Award, represented by an Oscar statuette, is among the highest distinctions given by the Academy to individuals whose extraordinary careers and commitment to the filmmaking community continues to leave a lasting impact.
