A University of KwaZulu-Natal nursing student has won the national Sustainable Fashion Designer of the Year title.
Funeka Shabalala impressed judges at the Green Campus Initiative competition with clothing made from recycled shopping bags, paper and plastic.
The self-taught designer earned his place at the national finals after winning campus competitions and representing UKZN at the University of the Witwatersrand.
Shabalala says he hopes to build a career in sustainable fashion while qualifying as a registered nurse.
