City Confident Lilian Ngoyi Street Repairs Are on Track
Story 1
The Johannesburg Roads Agency says repairs to Lilian Ngoyi Street in the Johannesburg CBD are progressing well.
Seventy-seven percent of the work has been completed on the 1.8 kilometre stretch, which was damaged by a gas explosion two years ago.
Despite earlier delays, the city is confident the road will reopen by 31 August.
JRA CEO Zweli Nyathi says their catch-up plan has worked and the project is back on track.
The Democratic Alliance’s Solly Msimanga has raised questions about the pace of work, but the city maintains that progress is steady.
Once the road is complete, phase two will begin, focusing on cleaning and beautifying the area.

Coca-Cola Adds Cane Sugar Option for US Consumers
Story 2
Coca-Cola will launch a version of Coke in the US made with locally grown cane sugar.
The move, encouraged by President Donald Trump, offers consumers an alternative to high-fructose corn syrup.
CEO James Quincey says the original Coke will remain, but the cane sugar version responds to growing demand for simpler ingredients.
Health-conscious drinkers and fans of Mexican Coke often say cane sugar gives a smoother, more natural taste.
The change could also benefit US cane farmers and reduce reliance on heavily subsidised corn.
While both sweeteners are similar nutritionally, the shift gives people more choice and a flavour they already know and love.

UK Announces Total Ban on Lead Ammunition to Protect Wildlife
Story 3
The UK government has announced a rapid phase-out and total ban on lead ammunition by 2029.
This move aims to protect birds, especially waterfowl, from lead poisoning caused by lead shotgun pellets and bullets.
Environment Minister Emma Hardy confirmed the ban will start in 2026, with full enforcement by 2029, faster than originally proposed.
Lead alternatives like steel, copper, and tungsten offer similar performance for hunters and shooters.
Exemptions will apply only to law enforcement and military where no alternatives exist.
The Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust estimates that around 100,000 birds die annually in the UK from ingesting lead shot.
The ban has been welcomed by wildlife groups, who say it is a significant step toward restoring healthy bird populations and cleaner environments.
