Sandton SPCA volunteer gears up for Mount Toubkal climb

Sandton SPCA volunteer Vicky is preparing to climb Mount Toubkal in Morocco this March to raise funds for the organisation.
She will join an expedition organised by a non-profit adventure group.
Proceeds from the climb will go towards a new SPCA vehicle for animal rescues, rehoming, and community outreach.
The organisation says the fundraiser will strengthen animal welfare services across the Sandton area and support the pets who need it most.

Fiery Octopus motorcycle gears up for Charity Poker run

Johannesburg motorcycle club Fiery Octopus will host its third annual charity poker run this Saturday, starting in Muldersdrift and travelling across 5-stops.
Riders will draw a poker card at each stop, with the best hand at the final leg winning, while all proceeds from the R100 entry fee go directly to HERD, an organisation caring for orphaned and abandoned elephants.
The club was founded by Kyle Malyon, who previously completed a 21-day motorbike ride across South Africa to raise funds for the elephants.

Artists who shaped South African culture recognized

South African artists David Kramer and the late Taliep Petersen have been awarded Cape Town’s highest civic honour, the Freedom of the City.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis presented the awards in a ceremony that highlighted the artists’ creative achievements and their collaborations on musicals such as District Six: The Musical and Kat and the Kings.
Hill-Lewis says the two are custodians of Cape Town’s soul:

Singapore Sevens start next week

South Africa has been drawn in Pool A alongside Fiji, Great Britain and Spain for the Singapore Sevens.
The Singapore Sevens will be played from 31st January 2026 to 1st February 2026 at The National Stadum.
South Africa will play Spain on Sunday morning.
In the women’s draw, Cape Town champions Australia will face the USA, Japan and Fiji in Pool A, while arch-rivals New Zealand will face France, Canada and Great Britain in Pool B.
