MIT Prints Fully Functional Motor for 50 Cents
Teaser / Tailpiece story

A team at MIT has created a multi-material 3D-printing platform that can produce electric machines in a single step.
Using five materials, they printed a fully functional linear motor in just three hours with material costs of only 50 cents.
The motor performed as well or better than similar devices made with more complex methods. The printer works layer by layer, combining conductive and magnetic materials with minimal post-processing.
This breakthrough could let factories make motors, robotics parts and medical devices onsite, cutting costs, delays and waste.
