The Izibusiso Community Foundation has distributed 156 food parcels to underprivileged residents in Orlando East through the Gauteng Department of Social Development’s food funding programme.
Founder Mbali Masinga says the parcels, which include mealie meal, samp, flour, sugar, cooking oil and tea, were prioritised for unemployed residents and child-headed households after demand exceeded supply.
The foundation has been encouraged to reapply for a second batch.
Masinga says beneficiary numbers continue to grow, particularly at weekly vegetable collections and the soup kitchen, with pensioners and children among those prioritised.

A community golf initiative in Walmer township, Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, South Africa is introducing children from disadvantaged backgrounds to the sport.
The programme, led by the Walmer township Golf Club, currently targets learners from John Masiza Primary School and aims to create opportunities for future golfing professionals.

Residents turned out in strong numbers for the Bryanfern Residents Association’s annual general meeting, showing a commitment to active involvement and collaboration.
Ward 104 councillor Emi Koekemoer praised the association’s hands-on approach and noted its strong partnerships with neighbouring associations, the South African Police Service and private security companies.
Several residents volunteered for roles within the association, and Koekemoer welcomed the new members, highlighting the importance of continued collaboration between the BFRA and local leadership.
