Zoo Lake Marks Milestone Year

Zoo Lake Users Committee chairperson Fran Haslam has confirmed that 2025 has been another successful year, praising the community for its continued support and involvement. Haslam said several key projects were completed during the year.This includes the long-awaited capping of the stormwater drain on the northwest side of Zoo Lake. The project, which took nine years to complete, was made possible through generous community donations, with support from the Johannesburg Roads Agency and City Parks. Further planting around the upgraded area is set to begin in the new year.

The City of Johannesburg has issued a firm warning ahead of the festive season tha street bashes and unregulated outdoor parties will not be allowed anywhere in the metro. Authorities say the blanket ban is in place for the entire holiday period. Law enforcement teams have been instructed to close down any non-compliant events immediately. According to the city’s MMC for Safety and Security Mcini Tshwakoh, the clampdown is aimed at curbing public disorder, noise disruptions, crime, and safety risks. Officials added that the city wants residents to enjoy the festive season responsibly, but within the confines of the law.

Dobson Backs Kolisi Return

Stormers director of rugby John Dobson believes Siya Kolisi will bring unique value to the Cape Town franchise when he returns next year, both on and off the field. Kolisi is set to rejoin the Stormers from the Sharks in July 2026. While his playing ability is widely recognised, Dobson said the Springbok captain’s biggest contribution will be his influence on the squad’s younger players. The Stormers currently boast a strong group of loose forwards and emerging leaders, including the last three Junior Springbok captains.
