Kaleidoscope Festival Nurtures Young Talent
The Kaleidoscope Music and Arts Festival is bringing world-class music and young talent together in Prince Albert i the Western cape from 21 to the 23 August. More than 250 young musicians are taking part in concerts, workshops and collaborations with acclaimed South African and international artists. The ARCO-PACT Strings Project gives more than 100 children in Prince Albert schools lessons in violin, viola, cello and double bass.nFor many, it is their first chance to learn an instrument and perform with professional musicians. The programme is also helping children build confidence, teamwork and stronger connections with their peers.

An online business in Diepsloot, Johannesburg, is generating between R3,000 and R5,000 in daily revenue while creating jobs in the local community. +jELCEE Trading Enterprise sells sneakers, iPhones, hair extensions, blankets and curtains through its online platform. Founder Lerato Nkgapele has grown the business while supporting other people through employment. ELCEE Trading Enterprise is a typical example of an informal economy business, which is one of the biggest employers in South Africa. The size of the informal economy is widely estimated at between 900 billion and 1 trillion rand.

Comrades Marathon Sets 2027 Record
The Comrades Marathon Association has launched the 2027 centenary race, increasing the entry cap to 28,000 runners.The race will take place on Sunday, 13 June 2027, from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. Entry fees will remain unchanged, with entries opening on Tuesday, 25 August 2026. The 2027 race will mark the 100th edition of the Comrades Marathon and the 50th Down Run.

African Scientists Aim For Moon Mission
African scientists and engineers are preparing to send a radio telescope to the Moon in 2029. This is part of the Africa2Moon mission.The project, involving Rhodes University and other African partners, will use three small spheres that will spread across the lunar surface and work together as a telescope.The equipment will study low-frequency radio signals that cannot be detected from Earth and search for possible signs of technology beyond our planet. Africa2Moon Dr Adriana Marais says the project shows that African scientists and engineers can build ambitious technology and work together to take it beyond Earth:
