The Johannesburg Development Agency has completed a major public environment upgrade along 16th Street and Moyane Drive in Orange Farm, delivered as part of the Chris Hani Sports Complex initiative within the wider Orange Farm Turnkey Project.

The investment enhances access, mobility and public amenities in one of Johannesburg's most vibrant yet historically underserved communities.
The upgrades have reshaped the corridor into a safer, more accessible and welcoming public space.

Two University of KwaZulu-Natal students have been honoured with prestigious national awards from the Geological Society of South Africa, recognising their exceptional academic performance and significant contributions to geological research.

Marine geologist and MSc graduate, Tamera Heeralal, has been awarded the 2025 John Handley Award for the best MSc thesis in Geology produced at a South African university.

Current MSc candidate Ishta Maharaj has received the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions Award for her exceptional academic performance in 2024.

The 2025 South African Women in Science Awards were hosted in Bloemfontein on Thursday celebrating the achievements of women scientists who are making outstanding contributions to science and innovation across the country.

This year marks 20 years of recognizing excellence in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, highlighting the Department's ongoing commitment to transformation, equity, and inclusion.

Deputy Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Nomalungelo Gina praised the finalists in both the emerging and established researcher categories, noting that their groundbreaking work has the potential to improve the lives of ordinary South Africans.
