Former Finance Minister Trevor Manuel has been appointed Chairman of the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Local Organising Committee Board.
The board was unveiled at Cricket South Africa's headquarters in Johannesburg on Thursday.

South Africa will co-host the 2027 World Cup with neighbours Zimbabwe and Namibia, in October and November in 2027.

The new board has been tasked with delivering a world class event.

The transport minister Barbara Creecy has highlighted government initiatives aimed at equipping young South Africans with skills and opportunities to pursue careers in the aviation sector.

The programmes focus on accessibility, mentorship and gender equity to nurture a diverse next generation of aviation professionals.

These include structured training programmes, internships, bursaries and learnerships.

Programmes offered by the South African Civil Aviation Authority, Airports Company South Africa and the Air Traffic Navigation Services, support learners from disadvantaged backgrounds to enter professions such as aircraft maintenance technicians, engineers, airport management, air traffic controllers and other related fields.

Home Affairs to scale up Smart ID and Passport services

The Home Affairs Department is on a drive to scale up the number of bank branches that can facilitate the application and renewal of Smart ID cards and passport applications.

There are currently 30 bank branches where citizens can apply for Smart ID cards and passports.
The aim is to increase this number to a thousand bank branches by 2029.
