The Gauteng Department of Education is reminding parents that the 2025 Online Admissions Application period for Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners will close on Friday the 29th of August at midnight.

In a statement on Friday, the department said that all public schools, district offices and 81 Decentralised Walk-In Centres, will remain open to assist parents with applications until the system closes.

The Department says no new applications will be accepted after the application period has closed.
The Gauteng Education department announced that as of Thursday the 21st of August, a total of 738 445 Grade 1 and Grade 8 applications were recorded by the GDE Online Admissions System.

George Municipality mayor, Jackie von Brandis, has received recognition from the South African Local Government Association for Excellence in Leadership.

The award was conferred on nine female mayors across the country, honouring exceptional women in leadershi, who have demonstrated sound governance and an outstanding commitment to service delivery.

Municipal spokesperson, Debra Sauer, says the recognition underscores the Mayor's dedication to driving effective leadership.
