A fundraising golf day at Randpark Golf Club in Johannesburg has brought together the agricultural sector in support of farmers affected by foot and mouth disease.
Organised by Farmers Weekly and partners, the Relief Fund Golf Day aimed to raise money and awareness for farmers dealing with outbreaks that impact cattle, sheep and pig farming, and threaten livelihoods and export markets.
Funds raised during the event will be channelled through a relief foundation to support affected farmers and help strengthen disease control efforts across the sector.

A pilot project in Langa on Albert Luthuli Street in Cape Town is improving working conditions for informal food traders through new solar powered lighting solutions.
The initiative, led under the AfriFOODLinks Project in partnership with local organisations and the City of Cape Town, is providing portable hybrid solar kits to traders who have long relied on candles and gas lamps while working late into the night.
The upgrade is aimed at improving safety, reducing fire risks and creating a more secure trading environment for mostly women vendors who operate well past midnight.

A free home based care training programme in Alexandra in Johannesburg is helping tackle youth unemployment while addressing shortages of caregivers in vulnerable communities.
The initiative, led by Gift of Day in partnership with Sibongile Home Based Care, has launched its second phase, offering an eight week training course that equips young people with certified skills in home care nursing and community support.
More than 70 youths have already enrolled, with organisers aiming to expand participation to over 100, creating pathways into clinics, hospitals and care organisations.
