A South African from Kokstad has won a Primetime Emmy for a virtual reality production.
3D artist and immersive media creator Rick Treweek co-created Uncanny Alley: A New Day, which won Outstanding Emerging Media Program on 5 September.
The production combines live theatre and virtual reality, with two actors playing 15 characters who interact with the audience.
Treweek says winning the Emmy was a proud moment for him, especially as someone who grew up in Kokstad.

Johannesburg has been recognised internationally for its work to expand green spaces across the city.
The City Parks and Zoo initiative was named a Highly Commended Finalist in the 2026 AIPH World Green City Awards in Bari, Italy.
The programme has planted trees, developed parks and worked with communities to improve access to green spaces, including through the Greening Soweto Legacy Project.
Johannesburg was one of three finalists in its category, which recognises projects that use urban greening to improve health and communities.

Two Tshwane University of Technology artists have received merit awards at the 2026 Sasol New Signatures Visual Arts Competition.
Inga Lokwe and Wisani Manyisi each received R10,000 for their artworks at the awards in Pretoria.
Lokwe’s glass artwork explores Xhosa culture and women’s roles, while Manyisi’s painting reflects on his family’s experience of war and displacement in Mozambique.
Another TUT master’s student and four alumni were also selected as finalists in the competition.
