Takealot Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Higher Education and Training Department to boost youth skills development and bridge education-to-employment gaps.
The agreement, signed by Deputy Minister Dr. Mimmy Gondwe, will deliver training through the Takealot Township Economy Initiative, offering students opportunities in logistics, e-commerce, and digital business.
Key areas include expanding Takealot’s bursary programme, distributing textbooks via its network, supporting township entrepreneurs through SETAs, and strengthening TVET and Community College programmes.
The online retailer says the partnership aims to create employment and prepare young South Africans for the digital economy.

Google has announced 9-million-dollars in funding for African universities and research institutions over the next year.
This is part of the US tech giant’s support for higher education institutions on the continent, which has seen it commit over 17-million-dollars in funding, curriculum, training and computing, and access to advanced artificial intelligence models over the past 4-years.
The company also offered college students in Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa and Zimbabwe a free one-year subscription to the Google AI Pro plan.
