Tshwane strengthens fight against air pollution with new regulations
Story 1
The City of Tshwane has updated its Air Quality Management By-law to protect residents and improve air quality.
The amendments target major contributors to pollution, including vehicle emissions, fuel-burning appliances, and spray-painting activities.
A key feature is the "duty of care" principle, requiring individuals and businesses to prevent activities that may cause air pollution.
The by-law also mandates maintenance for certain vehicles, registration and emissions reporting for fuel-burning appliances, and prohibits open burning of domestic, garden, and industrial waste.
Officials say the updated regulations align with national standards and reflect Tshwane’s commitment to public health and a cleaner, healthier environment.
