Kindness Helps 86 Year Old Man Get Closer To His Sailing Dream
Teaser / Tailpiece story
An 86 year old man in Texas is getting closer to fulfilling his lifelong dream of sailing to Alaska, after a crowdfunding campaign raised more than 41,000 US dollars, or around R700,000, to help finish and launch his boat.
Dale began building the 19 metre steel vessel in his front yard in 1987, and it is now about 75 percent complete. Three visitors from England, including content creator Laurence Benson, launched a fundraiser to help pay for the remaining construction, move the boat down a steep hill and transport it to a launch site.
More than 1,500 people have contributed to the campaign
