Joburg tackles key sustainability challenges

The City of Johannesburg says it is strengthening collaboration with the private sector, to tackle key sustainability challenges while driving inclusive economic growth, innovation, and environmental resilience.
The metro in partnership with ICLEI Africa and the South African Local Government Association, recently hosted the Johannesburg City–Business Collaboration Accelerator workshop.
The metro’s spokesperson, Virgil James, says the workshop promotes collaboration for sustainable innovation and drives practical solutions for Johannesburg’s green transition:

SANParks records high revenue

SANParks says it has made revenue of more than R4 billion this financial year for the first time in its history.
The organisation’s CEO Hapiloe Sello says the park reported an 11% increase in revenue from R3.67 billion to R4.1 billion from 2024 to 2025.
SANParks also achieved 86% of its performance targets, meeting 24 of its 28 goals.
Sello added that this milestone demonstrated their commitment to conservation, sustainable development, and community empowerment.

R8 billion to be invested in Cape Winelands Airport precinct

Growthpoint Properties has announced that it is investing R8 billion in Cape Winelands Airport precinct.
The property company, known for co-owning the V&A Waterfront, will co-develop and manage logistics, hospitality, and commercial assets within the site.
Once completed, the airport is expected to support over 100,000 jobs and operate largely on renewable energy.
Construction is expected to begin in 2026, with the first flights by 2028.

South Africa has launched a pioneering initiative to enhance its readiness for future health crises, backed by the Pandemic Fund.
The initiative brings together human, animal, and environmental health under a unified "One Health" approach, in partnership with WHO, UNICEF, FAO, and key government departments.
The project focuses on strengthening hospitals, labs, and early warning systems, as well as disease surveillance and emergency response in the region.
It aims to detect and respond to health threats before they escalate.
