Dr John Kani receives 2025 WWF Living Planet Award

Celebrated South African actor and playwright Dr John Kani was recognised for his contribution to the environmental cause, receiving the 2025 WWF Living Planet Award.
Kani was named the winner of the award at a ceremony in Sandton, in Johannesburg.

The award was presented in honour of his work as the longest-serving trustee of the WWF Nedbank Green Trust and for his donation of time and famous voice in the acclaimed The Lion King production in support of the WWF’s work.

The Nedbank Green Trust has funded catalytic projects that have brought real change to the lives of South Africans and to the natural environment.

The Diamond Knights biking club in the Northern Cape hosted their annual charity run in Kimberley, donating school uniforms and food parcels to disadvantaged families.

The club invited fellow biking groups including riders from neighbouring countries, to join the mass ride in support of the cause.

The club supports children who are mainly from foster care homes or child-headed households, as well as people living with disabilities and the elderly.
