Five Day Clean-Up Restores Ferndale Bird Sanctuary

A major five day clean-up operation is underway at the Ferndale Arboretum Bird Sanctuary in Johannesburg following years of neglect and illegal dumping in the area.

R5 Million Project to Tackle Malnutrition in Mqanduli

The Eastern Cape Social Development Department has launched a nearly R5 million initiative to address poverty, malnutrition and food insecurity in Kalalo Village in Mqanduli.
The programme, led by Social Development MEC Bukiwe Fanta, will also focus on protecting elderly residents and improving household nutrition.
The project has been launched during Child Protection Month and aims to strengthen support for vulnerable children and families in the area.
South African Social Security Agency provincial manager Tebisa Nondwayi Mayaba says the initiative brings services and support closer to communities in need.

An Alexandra based organisation is aiming to provide free sanitary pads to at least 2 000 women every year through an expanding community support initiative.
Elevate Her Africa recently supplied 10 women with a full year’s supply of sanitary products as part of a partnership with the Real Deal Show on Alex FM.
Founder Marie Joelle Kasongo says the long term goal is to grow the programme across South Africa and eventually the rest of Africa through donor support and community partnerships.
The initiative aims to reduce the financial pressure many women face each month while also encouraging beneficiaries to support others in future.
