Sandton’s Mohammed Patel has once again shown remarkable endurance, completing his 17th Dusi Canoe Marathon.This is one of South Africa’s toughest river races. The 75th edition of the event spans roughly 120km over three days, from Pietermaritzburg to Durban. Patel finished 11th in the 45–49 age category and placed 12th overall in the K1 division, completing the race in 12 hours and 40 minutes. Having started paddling at university in 2004 and entering his first Dusi in 2005, Patel has now completed 17 of the 19 races he has entered.

Former Mrs South Africa Talitha Oosthuizen has completed a trek to Everest Base Camp, using the journey to raise awareness around human trafficking and rhino poaching.
The former Mrs South Africa second princess says the expedition was both physically and emotionally challenging, as she pushed through harsh conditions at high altitude. Oosthuizen says the climb was not only a personal achievement, but also a platform to highlight social issues affecting South Africa, including wildlife crime and exploitation of vulnerable people. She adds that the experience strengthened her commitment to advocacy work, with plans for future campaigns and community initiatives already underway.
