Charlotte Maxeke Fund Launched to Support Young Women in Higher Education
Story 1
The Charlotte Maxeke Educational Fund has been launched to support young women at risk of dropping out of higher education, particularly those studying science-related fields.
The initiative was announced at the 125th Graduation Anniversary Memorial Lecture of Charlotte Maxeke in Johannesburg.
Higher Education Minister Buti Manamela says the fund brings together public and private sector support to help students complete their studies.
He says it continues Charlotte Maxeke’s legacy by expanding access to education for women in South Africa.
The fund will provide financial assistance aimed at improving student retention at universities.
