Gauteng Hospitals Complete 687 Surgeries

Gauteng public hospitals have completed 687 surgeries and clinical procedures as part of this year’s Mandela Month Surgical Marathon.
The figure represents more than half of the 1,326 procedures the Health Department pledged to complete during the programme.
Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital leads the campaign, with 156 procedures completed so far.
Health Department spokesperson Steve Mabona says hospitals taking part have maintained progress throughout the initiative:

Telkom Rewards 600 ProMaths Learners’ Achievements

The Telkom Foundation has recognised 600 learners from its ProMaths centres in Ermelo and Bethlehem for achievements in Mathematics and Physical Sciences.
The ProMaths Awards, held from 13 to 15 July 2026, honoured learners for top results in Grades 9 to 12 and Most Improved Learner awards.
The programme provides extra Mathematics and Physical Sciences lessons, mentorship and support to help learners access further education and STEM careers.
One former ProMaths learner, Luyanda Ndlozi, is now studying Mechatronics at the University of Cape Town through a Telkom Foundation bursary.

New Pre-School Opens For 64 Children

A new Reaiteka Pre-School has opened in Maruping Village, Northern Cape, providing classrooms for 64 children aged three to five.
The school opened on 21 July 2026 after a partnership between SSP Legacy, Breadline Africa, the Centre for Early Childhood Development, Kathu Solar Park, and the local community.
The new school replaces a shack and gives children proper classrooms for learning.
The project aims to improve learning conditions for children and support teachers with a safer education environment.
