New South African animated series promotes autism awareness

A new South African animated series is aiming to make autism awareness more accessible and relatable for families and communities.
The series, titled Unpacking George, follows a local character who learns about autism through his friendship with an autistic best friend.
It was created by retired advertising designer Derek Logan and Dr Emile Gouws, an international autism self-advocate and postdoctoral research fellow.
The creators say the series explores everyday experiences of autism from an African perspective. Episodes will be released on social media by Special Knead Café.

Miller thanked his schools, coaches, and family for their support, calling the selection a “dream come true”.
