Roodepoort Grade 5 learner tops 2026 World Maths Day global rankings

Grade Five learner Kairav Chetty from Pinnacle College Ridge in Roodepoort has ranked first in the world in the 2026 World Maths Day competition, an online global contest hosted on the Mathletics platform.
He competed against more than 30,000 learners, solving 1,245 questions in 20 minutes to secure the top position globally, in South Africa, and at his school.
Chetty also set a Mathletics world record by solving 143 questions in one minute, beating the previous record of 141.
He has now ranked first in South Africa for three consecutive years, placing him among the top young maths performers internationally.

Joburg projects win engineering awards

The City of Johannesburg says the engineering awards for its three infrastructure projects reflect ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and service delivery in the city.
The Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa recognised the projects for engineering work completed in Johannesburg.
The Johannesburg Development Agency delivered the awarded projects, which include the Eastern Stormwater Channel upgrade in Orange Grove, the Vlakfontein Transport Facility, and the Naledi Clinic.
The projects focus on stormwater management, transport infrastructure and healthcare services in local communities.
