Thousands of books set to boost literacy in New York communities
Teaser / Tailpiece story
More than 25,000 books are being distributed to underserved communities across New York City and Long Island through a major donation drive led by Book Fairies.
The nonprofit, which has donated millions of books since 2012, is working with ThriftBooks to supply reading material to schools, educators and community organisations.
Volunteers are sorting the books by reading level before they are delivered, ensuring they reach learners and families who may not otherwise have access to them.
Organisers say the donation will help meet a significant shortfall in book requests from schools and support efforts to improve child literacy.
