SA join global 1 Million Tables Earth Month campaign

South Africans are joining the global “1 Million Tables” campaign during Earth Month by hosting and sharing plant-based meals.
The initiative has registered 136 tables across 74 towns and cities in South Africa, with 679 participants gathering in homes and restaurants.
Participants reduce environmental impact by choosing plant-based meals, cutting greenhouse gas emissions, water use and land pressure linked to food production.
Globally, the campaign spans 170 countries, with more than 2,300 tables and over 19,000 participants recorded so far.

Joburg projects win engineering awards

The City of Johannesburg says the engineering awards for its three infrastructure projects reflect ongoing efforts to improve infrastructure and service delivery in the city.
The Institute of Municipal Engineering of Southern Africa recognised the projects for engineering work completed in Johannesburg.
The Johannesburg Development Agency delivered the awarded projects, which include the Eastern Stormwater Channel upgrade in Orange Grove, the Vlakfontein Transport Facility, and the Naledi Clinic.
The projects focus on stormwater management, transport infrastructure and healthcare services in local communities.

Soweto Golf Club hosts Pro-Am awards

Golfers, organisers and community members gathered at Soweto Golf Club for the Pro-Am awards, recognising players for performance, sportsmanship and development.
Now in its 8th edition and sanctioned by the Professional Golfers’ Association of South Africa, the tournament featured amateur and professional players competing across multiple categories.
Mpho Magabe won the tournament and said discipline and focus helped him secure victory after growing up playing golf in Soweto.
Organisers says the event supports the development of emerging golfers and provides exposure for new talent, with sponsors and partners supporting its growth.

Dakar 2026 Training Academy

The Dakar 2026 Training Academy will train more than 400 young people from African National Olympic Committees in sports event management.
The programme is supported by Olympic Solidarity and will cover travel and accommodation for selected participants.
Candidates will complete a training course in Dakar before working with the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games organising teams.
Fatima Rashed from Tanzania is part of the initiative and is training to be a manager for beach sports during the tournament that start in October:
