AI predicts cancer survival from selfies
Story 1
Researchers in the United States have developed an artificial intelligence tool that could help predict cancer patients’ chances of survival using a photograph of their face.
The system was trained on more than 40 million facial images and can estimate a person’s biological age, as well as assess survival risk in cancer patients.
Researchers say the technology could provide doctors with additional information about a patient’s physical health when assessing their condition.
The findings, published in The Lancet Digital Health, also suggest that facial features may offer clues about how well patients could cope with intensive cancer treatments.

Mi-Change Expands Homelessness Support in Joburg
Story 2
Mi-Change has expanded its digital voucher programme to Johannesburg, offering residents a way to support people experiencing homelessness.
The digital voucher initiative is now live in the city.
The initiative allows donors to scan a QR code on a registered participant’s lanyard and donate a 15-rand voucher, which can be used for essentials such as meals, showers, clean clothing and temporary shelter at participating support centres.
The programme works with local organisations to track voucher donations and direct support towards specific needs.
Mi-Change administrator Dylon Jordaan, who previously experienced homelessness, says receiving a voucher himself showed him how a small act of support can open the door to new opportunities.
