South Africa’s leading women in technology were celebrated at the 2025 Innovator Trust Women in Tech Awards held at Vodacom World in Midrand on 20 November 2025.
The event recognised entrepreneurs, SMMEs, youth innovators, and industry leaders making a mark in ICT.
Keynotes, panels, and discussions explored innovation, leadership, diversity, and boosting participation of women in tech.
Under the theme Shaping her growth. Code it. Shape it. Scale it., the awards highlighted gender equality, economic empowerment, and inclusive growth across Africa.

Sanitary pad drive eases period poverty for TUT students

More than 500 sanitary pads have been distributed to students struggling with period poverty at the Tshwane University of Technology’s eMalahleni campus.
The initiative, led by the Directorate of Student Affairs and Extracurricular Development (SAED), ensures that students can attend classes without disruption.
Those who registered at the campus library expressed gratitude for the support.
The drive also encouraged open conversations about menstruation, promoted dignity, and reminded students to access academic and emotional support services.

Midtown Pop-Up Apple Orchard Serves Free Apples and Cider to Tackle Food Insecurity

A pop-up apple orchard is opening in Midtown Manhattan on Tuesday, offering free apples and hot cider while drawing attention to food insecurity.
The Farmlink Project, together with 260 Sample Sale, will hand out 9 7 tonnes of New York–grown apples at 261 Fifth Avenue, with a further 7 tonnes going to food banks in Harlem, Brooklyn and the Bronx.
The event highlights how surplus produce from Upstate farms can be redirected to families in need. Visitors can stop by from 11am to collect apples and learn more about Farmlink’s food-rescue work.
The initiative follows a recent distribution that moved 900Kg pounds of produce in under three hours, as Farmlink works toward its goal of delivering 4.5 million kg of food by Thanksgiving.
