Johannesburg boy becomes World Cup carrier

A 10-year-old footballer from Victory Park in Johannesburg will represent South Africa at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as an official Match Ball Carrier after winning the Kia Kick Off Kid competition.
Luca Human-Maré earned the opportunity after submitting video entries showing his football skills, discipline and passion for the game.
As part of the prize, he will walk onto the pitch with the national team and carry the official match ball during a World Cup fixture.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup begins on 11 June and will be hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Bafana Bafana drawn AFCON qualifier group

Bafana Bafana have been drawn in Group D for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers alongside Kenya, Guinea and Eritrea.
The qualifying draw was conducted in Egypt ahead of the tournament to be hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
South Africa will begin their campaign during the September and October FIFA international window.
Bafana coach Hugo Broos will face South Africa’s all-time leading goal scorer and Kenya’s Harambee Stars coach, Benni McCarthy.
Only the top teams will secure places at the 2027 continental tournament.

Oldnall Crowther complete 152km swim challenge

Chris Oldnall and Peet Crowther have completed a 152km ocean swimming challenge in the Western Cape, finishing a 66km Double False Bay crossing between Rooi-Els and Miller’s Point.
The Ocean Challenge took place between 2024 and 2026 and included three long-distance swims across False Bay, from Robben Island to Dassen Island, and the final crossing in cold Atlantic waters with strong currents and long hours at sea.
The challenge was undertaken to raise funds for the South African Hall of Fame Legacy Project, which supports education opportunities for boys from under-resourced communities.
