Soweto Open Market Day to Showcase Local Businesses at Phiri Grounds

Soweto residents can look forward to a vibrant day of shopping, entertainment and community engagement at the upcoming Soweto Open Market Day.
The event will take place on 6 June at the Phiri Grounds on Mabalane Street, also known as 5 Star, and will showcase local entrepreneurs and small businesses.
Organiser Thato Ntisa says the initiative aims to give local businesses, creatives and entrepreneurs a platform to market and sell their products while connecting with the community.
The market will feature food, fashion, skincare, handmade goods, wellness products, entertainment and a kids’ area for families.
Ntisa says the goal is to promote economic empowerment, networking and community support.

Duo to Attempt Guinness World Record While Raising Funds for SPCA

Two runners are set to take on the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon this weekend while attempting a Guinness World Record and raising funds for the Cape of Good Hope SPCA.
Asgar Dalvie and Muhammad Sanglay will complete the 42.2km race inside a two-metre foam replica of an SPCA vehicle named Bokkie, aiming for the fastest marathon completed in a two-person costume.
The pair have previously run the marathon in creative costumes to support the SPCA and are now raising funds for the organisation’s inspectorate fuel costs, which support animal rescue operations.
The campaign has already raised more than R23,000, with donations continuing ahead of race day.

Metro Police Reach Out to Mamelodi Children Through Child Protection Drive

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) supported children from the Bophelong Children Centre in Mamelodi through its ‘Adopt an Orphanage Home’ initiative during Child Protection Month.
Led by TMPD Commissioner Yolanda Faro and the Social Crime Prevention Unit, officers spent time with the children in an outreach programme focused on care, support and essential resources.
The initiative, now in its third year, included a breakfast outing and gift donations at KFC Elardus Park, with some children also celebrating their birthdays. Officers and Faro also contributed groceries from their own pockets.
The TMPD says the programme aims to strengthen community ties and support vulnerable children across the city.
