Metro Police Reach Out to Mamelodi Children Through Child Protection Drive
The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) supported children from the Bophelong Children Centre in Mamelodi through its ‘Adopt an Orphanage Home’ initiative during Child Protection Month.
Led by TMPD Commissioner Yolanda Faro and the Social Crime Prevention Unit, officers spent time with the children in an outreach programme focused on care, support and essential resources.
The initiative, now in its third year, included a breakfast outing and gift donations at KFC Elardus Park, with some children also celebrating their birthdays. Officers and Faro also contributed groceries from their own pockets.
The TMPD says the programme aims to strengthen community ties and support vulnerable children across the city.

EWSETA Drives Skills Push at Enlit Africa in Cape Town
Skills development is taking centre stage at Enlit Africa 2026, which wraps up today at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.
The Energy and Water Sector Education Training Authority says building a future ready workforce is key as South Africa’s energy and water sectors continue to face rapid change driven by technology and infrastructure pressures.
Through programmes such as learnerships, artisan training, bursaries and workplace based learning, EWSETA is working with industry partners to strengthen technical and operational skills needed for improved service delivery.

Sandton Trainer Runs 100km Charity Challenge for Young Rugby Players
A Sandton based trainer has completed a 100 kilometre charity run at Alberton Rugby Club to help Easterns Touch Rugby players who cannot afford to attend tours.
Lance Stevens ran 20 laps of a 5 kilometre loop over several hours to raise support for the young athletes, saying the challenge was driven by his own experience of needing help early in his sporting journey.
He says the effort was physically exhausting, but motivated by the goal of giving others the same opportunities he once received.
Funds raised will help players take part in upcoming touch rugby tours and development opportunities.

South African Duo Complete 152km Ocean Swim Challenge
Two South African swimmers have completed a gruelling 152 kilometre open water challenge across the Western Cape as part of a three stage endurance series linked to youth education support.
Chris Oldnall and Peet Crowther finished the final leg of the Trilogy Ocean Challenge with a 66 kilometre Double False Bay Crossing, marking the first time the route has been completed as part of the full series.
The challenge included three major swims over two years in freezing and demanding ocean conditions, testing endurance, mental strength and preparation.
The initiative was also used to raise support for educational opportunities for boys from under resourced communities through the South African Hall of Fame Legacy Project.
