Limpopo Pediatric Surgeon leads historic separation of conjoined twins

Limpopo Premier Phophi Ramathuba has praised the team of surgeons led by Pediatric Surgeon, Dr Nyaweleni Tshifularo, for successfully separating conjoined twins in a groundbreaking operation at the Mankweng hospital in Limpopo.

The twins, who were born on the 28th of January underwent a complex surgical procedure that marked a historic milestone for South Africa’s public healthcare system.

The Surgeon says teamwork across multiple medical disciplines was key to the successful surgery which lasted more than eight hours.

Ramathuba says the successful operation highlights the skill, commitment and growing capacity of medical professionals in the province.
