Parkmore community restores neglected property for Mandela Day

Parkmore residents, volunteers and local businesses came together on Mandela Day to restore a derelict property that had become an eyesore opposite Montrose Primary School.
Volunteers spent the day painting the boundary wall after the property had stood abandoned for years, with all materials donated by local sponsors at no cost to the community association.
The project has helped improve the area's appearance while showing how communities can work together to create safer and more welcoming neighbourhoods.

Wits honours pioneering cardiologist with honorary doctorate

Wits University has awarded 94 year old Professor Kubedi Patrick Mokhobo an Honorary Doctorate in Medicine in recognition of his lifelong contribution to healthcare and medical education.
Professor Mokhobo became southern Africa's first Black cardiologist after overcoming barriers during apartheid and went on to strengthen healthcare in South Africa, Eswatini and Lesotho through his work as a doctor, educator and health leader.
Accepting the honour, Professor Mokhobo encouraged graduates to use their skills to help build a stronger South Africa.

A farming programme in Sierra Leone is empowering people with limb loss by teaching them sustainable farming skills that help them grow food, earn an income and support their communities.
The initiative, called Farming on Crutches, trains participants in agriculture before they return home to start farms, with many also sharing their knowledge with others and creating new opportunities.
The programme has now welcomed its 100th participant and plans to expand across West Africa to help even more people rebuild their lives.
