Bellville’s Revival Driven by Waste Solutions and Community Action
Story 2
Bellville is undergoing a quiet revival, thanks to the Greater Tygerberg Partnership’s focus on waste, public space, and community pride.
Their Zero Waste programme involves schools, businesses, and residents in cutting landfill waste, supported by a buy-back centre and the Track My Trash app.
Informal waste pickers now earn income through a trolley project that connects them with businesses needing recycling collected.
The area has also been uplifted with murals, repaired pavements, and new ablution facilities near informal trading zones.
Together, these efforts have boosted business activity by over 40% since 2017, proving local partnerships can reshape a city.
