The Mogale City Municipality Disability Forum says it is proud of the recently held Disability Excellence Awards, which recognized and empowered persons with disabilities.
The awards honour people with disabilities for their achievements, participation, and contributions in their communities.
Partnerships with groups like the Zondo Foundation will also run monthly awareness activities, giving the disability community more opportunities to learn, connect, and participate fully in society.
The forum's Chairperson , Jan Lethoko, says the awards are helping to strengthen unity, support inclusion, and show that every person’s talents and contributions matter.

South Africa will bid to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations, inviting Namibia and Botswana as co-hosts.
This was revealed by Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie.
The official bid is expected before 1 February 2026.
Speaking to the SABC McKenzie says hosting the tournament aims to bring international teams and fans to the region, creating business opportunities for local hotels, restaurants, and transport companies, while showing off the country to the world:

Volunteers power Literacy Hubs in Western Cape

To the Western Cape, where 450 volunteers and community members are running Literacy Hubs with international education charity, Mellon Educate, to boost early-grade reading.
The hubs provide tutoring, digital learning, and classrooms filled with books, helping children improve literacy.
Public and corporate support covers resources, while 90 percent of the young tutors were previously unemployed, creating jobs alongside learning.
Evaluations show literacy scores can rise by 40 to 50 percent in a year.

Finnish eyewear company IXI is set to launch smart glasses that automatically adjust focus based on the wearer’s needs.
The glasses use eye-tracking sensors and liquid crystals in the lenses to instantly change prescription.
IXI says the glasses are primarily aimed at people with age-related farsightedness and are intended to replace the need for multiple pairs of glasses, eg reading glasses, distance glasses.
