Johannesburg Learners Showcase Science Projects at Wits

Johannesburg learners have showcased their science and innovation projects at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists Regional Science Fair at Wits University.
The event brought together 387 learners who presented 289 projects across engineering, environmental studies, biomedical sciences and other fields.
A total of 295 medals were awarded, including 85 gold, 90 silver and 120 bronze.
Among the award recipients was Grade 6 learner Lethukuthula Nhlapho, who developed a solar-powered traffic light to help keep roads safer during power outages.

Soweto Learners to Receive Solar Lights for Studying

The Nhlanhla Tshabalala Foundation has launched a charity drive to provide 100 solar lights to matric learners in disadvantaged schools and informal settlements in Soweto.
The lights will help learners study after dark in areas with limited access to electricity.
Funds will be raised through the foundation’s 10th anniversary charity golf day and gala dinner at Soweto Country Club in Pimville on 28 August.
The drive marks a decade of community work under the theme “Leaving no child behind.”

Fleurhof Women Gather for Support and Empowerment

The Serve to Grow Foundation brought women at the Elizabeth Walk Safe Haven in Fleurhof together for a day of support and empowerment.
The event included dancing, an empowerment talk, gifts and a meal, with support from local businesses.
The safe haven supports women recovering from addiction and dealing with trauma through counselling, life skills and spiritual guidance.
The gathering gave the women an opportunity to feel supported and appreciated.
