Village of Hope brings support to families in Mgongo

Families and children in the Mgongo informal settlement have received clothing, food and other essential support through the Village of Hope Walk a Mile Drive.
The outreach provided clothing to families, while 38 learners received school shoes.
Children and community members also received soup, bread rolls and party packs, with support from local businesses, organisations and community members.
Village of Hope says it remains committed to supporting vulnerable children and bringing practical help to communities in need.

Sidney takes another step towards clearer vision

Cape Town resident Sidney Miller has undergone his second cataract surgery, bringing him another step closer to clearer vision.
The procedure was performed at CURE Day Hospital with support from the Atlantic Eye Foundation, while Professor Hamzah Mustak and Dr Raeesah Suleman donated their time and expertise.
Sidney’s journey gained national attention after content creator Chad Nathan found him living on the streets in Cape Town.
More than R500,000 was then raised to help Sidney rebuild his life, with the funds being managed on his behalf.

Good Samaritan Helps Young Cyclist Get Lost Bike Back

A Better Edenvale volunteer has helped reunite a young cyclist with his lost bicycle in Soweto.
Ruben Shiviti found the bike in the middle of the road while travelling home and noticed that a name was written on it.
With help from cycling groups, the bicycle was traced back to its owner, Martin Hoyi, who had been searching for it after it fell from a vehicle.
The bike had been donated to aspiring cyclist Bongani Mapanga, who dreams of representing South Africa and becoming a national champion.
The return has brought huge relief to the young cyclist and is being praised as a simple example of honesty and kindness.

The 2026 South African Women in Science Awards have recognised female researchers and students for their contributions to science, technology and innovation.
The awards were held on Thursday evening at the NH Johannesburg, Sandton Hotel, under the theme Placing Women at the Centre of Science, Technology and Innovation.
Researchers were recognised across fields including natural sciences, engineering, humanities and social sciences, as well as public engagement with science.
