Johannesburg Learners Showcase Science Innovations at Wits

Johannesburg learners have showcased their science and innovation projects at the Eskom Expo for Young Scientists Regional Science Fair at Wits University.
The event brought together 387 learners who presented 289 projects across engineering, environmental studies, biomedical sciences and other fields.
A total of 295 medals were awarded, including 85 gold, 90 silver and 120 bronze.
Among the award recipients was Grade 6 learner Lethukuthula Nhlapho, who developed a solar-powered traffic light to help keep roads safer during power outages.

Women Scientists Honoured at 2026 Awards in Johannesburg

The 2026 South African Women in Science Awards took place in Johannesburg yesterday, recognising women researchers and students in science, technology and innovation.
The awards honour both established and emerging scientists and promote greater participation by women in science.
The event is held under the theme, “Placing Women at the Centre of Science, Technology and Innovation.”
Science and Technology Minister Blade Nzimande says women have been left behind in science and need greater opportunities:

Fleurhof Women Gather for Support and Empowerment

The Serve to Grow Foundation brought women at the Elizabeth Walk Safe Haven in Fleurhof together for a day of support and empowerment.
The event included dancing, an empowerment talk, gifts and a meal, with support from local businesses.
The safe haven supports women recovering from addiction and dealing with trauma through counselling, life skills and spiritual guidance.
The gathering gave the women an opportunity to feel supported and appreciated.

AdvTech, CSA Partner to Grow Youth Women’s Cricket

AdvTech Limited and Cricket South Africa have signed a three-year partnership to support youth and women’s cricket in South Africa.
AdvTech will sponsor CSA’s Youth Weeks, the Proteas Women’s inbound Test series and serve as an associate partner of Proteas Men’s Test cricket.
The agreement covers U13, U16 and U19 competitions, as well as the Khaya Majola Cricket Week.
AdvTech also plans to introduce girls’ cricket programmes at selected schools to support the development of young female players.
