Knitters turn movie afternoon into a good cause

More than 100 knitters and crocheters gathered at Cedar Square in Johannesburg for a special screening of Notting Hill in celebration of World Granny Square Day.
The 123-seat cinema was filled with people knitting and crocheting granny squares while watching the film.
The event was hosted by Community Hours in partnership with 67 Blankets, which turns donated squares into blankets and scarves for people in need.
The afternoon brought together creativity, friendship and community spirit, while helping create items that will provide warmth to others.

PPS Foundation to Provide Up to 130,000 Meals to Students

The PPS Foundation, the Professional Provident Society Foundation, is on track to provide between 120,000 and 130,000 meals to students this year as it works to address food insecurity.
The Group Executive for Mutuality, Ayanda Seboni, says hunger can make it harder for students to succeed academically, particularly those already facing financial challenges.
The foundation is also supporting young people beyond university through career guidance, workplace readiness training and programmes that expose learners to different career opportunities.

A young boy at Cordwalles Preparatory School in Pietermaritzburg has shown that kindness can start with a simple act of sharing.
During the school’s Bike Week, the Grade RR learner heard that a classmate did not have a bicycle to take part.
He went home, told his mother and returned to school the next day with his extra bike so his friend would not miss out.
The school says the gesture is a simple example of Ubuntu and its theme of caring for one another.
