Soweto Youth Orchestra Honours African Women in Music

The Soweto Theatre Youth Orchestra will honour African women in music through their annual Chapters of Her concert on Saturday.
The performance at Soweto Theatre will feature music, spoken word and storytelling celebrating pioneers including Miriam Makeba, Sophie Mgcina and Dorothy Masuka.
Jazz pianist Thandi Ntuli and conductor Chevonne Plaatjies will mentor the young performers as they prepare for the show.
The concert forms part of Women’s Month and gives emerging musicians a platform to develop their skills.

South African woman Megan has donated warm socks, hoodies, care packs and Sensory Room supplies to residents at Park Care Centre, Johannesburg.
About a week after her first donation, she returned with another 40 care packs.

Africa Transformation Services has launched as an independent company focused on linking skills development to jobs and business opportunities.
The company, formerly known as Afrika Tikkun Services, will provide training, recruitment, placement and enterprise support.
This comes as South Africa faces high youth unemployment, with Statistics South Africa figures cited by the company showing that 60-point-nine percent of 15-to-24-year-olds were unemployed in the first quarter of this year.
ATS says it will work with employers and other partners to ensure training leads to jobs, income and opportunities to start businesses.
