Heritage Run Honours Women

Residents are invited to join an 8km Heritage Run on September 24 at Christoffel Park in Ekurhuleni, bringing families and the community together for fitness, culture and local business. The event starts at **7am, followed by heritage food, craft stalls and other community activities.The run will also honour the memory of **Elizabeth “Tsontso” Moselakgomo** and other women who have lost their lives in and around Ekurhuleni, including those who have not yet been identified. Organisers say the tribute is intended to remember the women and show support for their families and communities.

Rooibos Goes Global

South Africa’s rooibos is finding new fans around the world, with the local ingredient now being used in Japanese ramen, British ice cream and North American lattes. Rooibos is cultivated in parts of the Western and Northern Cape, including the Cederberg and areas around Clanwilliam and Nieuwoudtville. Its production connects the plant to farming communities and the knowledge involved in growing, harvesting and processing rooibos. Japan was the biggest overseas market for rooibos in 2025, accounting for 33% of exports, while Germany, the Netherlands, the UK and France are also established markets.

11 000 Meals Reach Princess Community

More than 11 800 nutritious meals have been provided to vulnerable children and families in Princess, Roodepoort, through a partnership between Rise Against Hunger South Africa and Clover Mama Afrika. The initiative was launched in October 2025 and has committed 54 000 meals to Mama Zakhe Rammekwa’s centre and local Early Childhood Development centres. Clover Mama Afrika is a long-running Corporate Social Investment programme, established in 2001, which supports women known as “Mamas” in communities across South Africa. The programme has hosted 1 917 training sessions, transferring skills to more than 16 000 community members to help them strengthen and sustain their own community projects.
