UJ launches Rescue Simulation Centre

The University of Johannesburg has launched Africa’s first advanced Rescue Simulation Centre at its Doornfontein Campus.
The 3,000m² facility features a survival pool, helicopter and aircraft simulators, urban search and rescue tunnels, and trench rescue systems. It provides students and professionals with practical training in emergency response, bridging the gap between theory and real-world application.
The centre strengthens local skills, supports national preparedness, and prepares a new generation of rescue professionals.

iGEMS celebrates 10 years in Nelson Mandela Bay

The iGEMS programme in Nelson Mandela Bay has marked 10 years of guiding learners from high school through engineering careers, boasting a 100% employment record for graduates.
Founded in 2015 by the Unity in Africa Foundation, iGEMS provides support in maths, science, coding, life skills, and leadership before offering internships and university placements.
Over the decade, 27 students have graduated, equipped with technical and soft skills that make them highly sought after.
Director Berenice Rose says the programme continues to build futures locally.
