KwaZulu-Natal: The recently concluded Umzinyathi District Water Summit united local leaders and communities to plan the district's water future at the Umzinyathi District Water Summit.
The summit’s theme: “Securing Umzinyathi District’s Water Future through Good Governance, Sustainable and Resilient Water Infrastructure,” guided various discussions and resolutions that are set to shape the region’s water policies.
In his closing remarks, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa praised the active participation of all stakeholders, including government departments, municipalities and the private sector.
Minister Hlabisa highlighted the crucial role of traditional leadership in achieving water sustainability, acknowledging the deep-rooted connection of Amakhosi to the land and resources.
Delegates resolved to finalise the District Water Master Plan and prioritise refurbishing aged infrastructure.
