Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero says the city has started allocating stalls and issuing smart cards to registered street traders in the inner city.
Morero says the multidisciplinary team deployed for the verification process had been working every day, including weekends, since earlier this month.
He says they have onboarded many traders, verified their documentation and issued the first group with permits.
Stall allocations have also commenced in markets where space is immediately available.

Gauteng expects Gautrain expansion to generate substantial economic returns

The Gauteng local government expects the expansion of the Gautrain system to areas including Soweto, Fourways, Roodepoort and Mamelodi, to generate substantial economic returns creating more than 125,000 jobs during construction.
The Gautrain expansion project plans to add up to 300 kilometers of rail lines, connecting underserved areas to key economic hubs.
The initiative aims to extend the existing 80-kilometer system, integrating new routes to enhance connectivity and support sustainable development.
The project will be completed in stages, with the first phase focusing on linking Sandton and Soweto.

The Tourism Department in collaboration with the Airports Company South Africa and several other tourism sectors, have launched a Smart Visitor Information Centre at the OR Tambo International Airport yesterday.
The interactive, paperless centre that offers real-time information on the country's varies culture, and heritage offerings across all nine South African provinces.
