UK launches £12.4 million fund to modernise foster care
Teaser / Tailpiece story
A £12.4 million innovation fund has been launched in England to make foster care more flexible and better suited to modern life.
The initiative is introducing new approaches such as “weekender” care, where adults build long term relationships with children in care through regular visits, alongside stronger community based support networks for foster families.

It also includes home adaptation support and hub style foster systems designed to improve stability and reduce pressure on carers.
Officials say the reforms are designed to widen access to fostering while strengthening support for children in care through more consistent relationships and care structures.
