Johannesburg blanket drive supports vulnerable winter residents

Mall of the South and the SOJO Helping Hands Foundation have launched a blanket drive to support vulnerable residents in Johannesburg during winter.
The campaign aims to collect 6,700 blankets, which will be distributed to non-profit organisations through the Epic Foundation’s Charities4Change programme.
The drive runs from 5 May to 18 July 2026 and encourages residents to donate blankets for people in need.

Stationery campaign supports thousands of South learners

Almost 9,000 learners across South Africa will receive stationery packs after R1 million was raised through the Checkers Act For Change Back to School campaign in partnership with Meals on Wheels.
The initiative will supply essential school items such as pens, exercise books and calculators to learners in under-resourced schools.
The funds were collected through sales of a limited-edition exam pad, customer donations at till points and contributions from stationery brands.
Organisers say the drive helps learners enter classrooms with the basic tools needed to take part more confidently in lessons.

Cape Town trains 250 unemployed youth

The City of Cape Town has expanded its Installation, Repair and Maintenance Programme to train 250 unemployed young people in technical skills and workplace experience.
This places participants in municipal departments including Water and Sanitation and Human Settlements.
Participants assist artisans with plumbing, carpentry, electrical support and repair work while completing accredited training.
The expansion follows a pilot project in which 18 of the 31 trainees secured permanent jobs in the City and private companies.
