The suburb of Melville is preparing for the return of The Happening, a free community street festival set for 28 March 2026.
Ahead of the event, organisers are calling on residents and volunteers to help clean and refresh 7th Street and 4th Avenue through painting, mural work and general upkeep.
The initiative will include donations of supplies such as paint and cleaning materials, with the aim of transforming the area into a vibrant public space once again.
The festival itself will feature live music, street performances, markets and art activities, bringing together artists, families and visitors for a celebration of creativity.

A Pretoria primary school has surprised its security guard with a heartfelt celebration for his 54th birthday.
Jacob Maredi, who has worked at Laerskool Pretoria Oos for 28 years, was honoured with a full school procession organised by parents and learners.
Pupils from pre-school to Grade 7 marched through the gates singing, cheering, and holding handmade posters, while the school was decorated with balloons and gifts.
Maredi, known for greeting learners by name and keeping the school safe, says the surprise left him overwhelmed.
He says he did not expect the celebration and will never forget the special day, adding that he simply enjoys working with children and being helpful.

Members of the Midrand Striders are preparing for the Wings for Life World Run on 10 May, a global event that raises funds for spinal cord injury research.
The club has been increasing training sessions as runners of all levels build endurance for the unique race format, which has no fixed finish line.
Participants say the group environment has helped improve fitness and motivation, with members steadily working towards personal goals ranging from 5km times to marathon distances.
The event will see runners around the world compete simultaneously, with all entry fees supporting medical research into spinal cord injuries.
