A Pretoria primary school has surprised its security guard with a heartfelt celebration for his 54th birthday.
Jacob Maredi, who has worked at Laerskool Pretoria Oos for 28 years, was honoured with a full school procession organised by parents and learners.
Pupils from pre-school to Grade 7 marched through the gates singing, cheering, and holding handmade posters, while the school was decorated with balloons and gifts.
Maredi, known for greeting learners by name and keeping the school safe, says the surprise left him overwhelmed.
He says he did not expect the celebration and will never forget the special day, adding that he simply enjoys working with children and being helpful.
