Members of the Midrand Striders are preparing for the Wings for Life World Run on 10 May, a global event that raises funds for spinal cord injury research.
The club has been increasing training sessions as runners of all levels build endurance for the unique race format, which has no fixed finish line.
Participants say the group environment has helped improve fitness and motivation, with members steadily working towards personal goals ranging from 5km times to marathon distances.
The event will see runners around the world compete simultaneously, with all entry fees supporting medical research into spinal cord injuries.

A Pietermaritzburg cyclist is preparing for a 3,500 kilometre ride from the Cape of Good Hope and back to raise funds for education in rural communities.
The challenge, named Cycle for Hope, will see Pietermaritzburg cyclist Nathan Michell ride in support of Hope Valley Farm School in KwaZulu-Natal.
The school provides education to children from farmworker families and nearby informal settlements, aiming to improve access to quality learning opportunities.
Michell says the long distance ride is about raising awareness and inspiring support for learners who depend on the school’s programmes.

The upgraded Kagiso Ext 6 Community Library has officially opened in Mogale City, Gauteng.
The facility, developed in partnership with the Gauteng Department of Education, now offers computers, free WiFi, a children’s study area and assistive technology for visually impaired users.
Officials say the library is designed to improve access to education, digital resources and lifelong learning opportunities for the Kagiso community.
The opening marks a major investment in local education infrastructure aimed at supporting learners and residents.
