Community Rallies Behind Germiston Bedfordview SPCA

The Germiston and Bedfordview community has exceeded donation targets after answering an urgent appeal to support the local SPCA and keep its services running.
Residents donated six tonnes of pet food, six trailer loads of goods for the charity shop and R25 000 in donations, far surpassing the original food and goods targets.
The SPCA says the overwhelming support will help it continue rescuing, treating, feeding and caring for vulnerable animals in the community.

Learners at Ysterplaat Primary School in Milnerton have received their first computer lab as part of a Mandela Day initiative aimed at expanding access to technology and education.
The computer lab was donated by the Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Les Govender, in collaboration with the Consul General of the People's Republic of China.
The initiative aims to honour Nelson Mandela's belief in education by equipping learners with digital skills and creating more opportunities for their future.
Govender says knowing the computer lab will benefit learners for years to come makes the effort worthwhile.

The Be the Best Version of Yourself initiative introduced young people from Benoni to golf while teaching valuable life skills during a mentorship day at the Benoni Driving Range.
Many of the participants experienced the sport for the first time, learning discipline, confidence, focus and perseverance from mentors and golf coach Gabriel Moses.
The initiative forms part of Project One Million, which aims to positively impact one million young people across Africa through mentorship, leadership and skills development.

Cape Town Choir Crowned International Champions in Spain

St Cyprian's Choir and Chamber Choir from Cape Town have been named the overall winners of the Golden Voices of Barcelona International Choir Competition in Spain.
The choir won the World Sacred Music, Folklore and Youth Choirs of Equal Voices categories, finished second in the Pop Jazz Gospel category and claimed the competition's Grand Prix.
Their victory also earned them the honour of performing in the Crypt of the Sagrada Família, one of Spain's most iconic landmarks.
